PlayStation-certified is something that console lovers have been longing for on smartphones for quite a while. Currently, there’s only a single handset carrying the PlayStation-certified logo - the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, and it’s also got a slide-out gamepad to prove its focus on games. But for those who want some more choice, good news has arrived. HTC will be the first one outside of Sony to get PlayStation-certified handsets and this is going to happen in the second half of 2012, if we are to believe a scoop by Pocket-lint.
For the uninitiated - PlayStation-certified is a label that would allow phone makers to bring classic PlayStation one titles to phones, allowing you to go back in times when games like Crash Bandicoot were huge.
Now, the initiative comes from Sony, and has been announced long ago, but the company did little advances to bring certification to other handsets.
“It expands the PlayStation experience beyond the PSP border. It is the first cross-platform endeavour,” said Kaz Hirai, future Sony chief executive.
For HTC, that’s one move that will help it regain the positions it lost in the last couple of quarters when the big and bulky industrial design phone recipe failed the company. Do you think that HTC is on the right track with PS certification? Why, or why not? Sound off in the comments below
