Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Review

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

Assassin Creed II is definitely one of the best games ever. Though at this point, once can easily see that Ubisoft was beginning to rush things. Bloodlines seems like a ‘desperate’ installment to the series to connect the plotlines of Assassin’s Creed II and with Brotherhood released a little less then a year after ACII, people feared that this title would be just a little more than Assassin’s Creed 2.5. And they’re right, though they are still some good things about this game which is worth your time and money.
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is a direct sequel to Assassin Creed II and takes place just right after where Ezio was left off. He left home after going wtf beneath the Vatican (yea I’m not kidding), only to have his home, Monteriggioni, totally and utterly destroyed. Yes, all those weapons and armors you spend so much time to get, lost, in a matter of seconds, such is the way of life of video games.

Ezio then headed to Rome for his vengeance and to reclaim the Apple. The story had kinda lost it’s impact. It is good, but nowhere as great as Assassin Creed’s II. Sometimes, the plot even felt forced. Desmond, though played an even more larger role in the game then ever before. You also have the option to have Desmond leave the animus at anytime and even check your e-mails.
Basically, you will be spending your time in Rome for the rest of your game. Although some may be disappointed in moving between multiple cities, Rome, in itself is very huge, and with the crisp and beautiful graphics, moving around the city while enjoying the sights is definitely worth your time. It’s also worth mentioning that you can now basically ride your horse anywhere, even within the city, if you’re in need of one, you can even hijack someone else’s horse medieval-GTA style. He can now even leap from one horse to another for a kill and he can even mount on a horse by jumping from a top straight back down to the saddle.

Assassin Creed Brotherhood also introduced the borgia towers. Basically, you have to assassinate a borgia captain and to remove his influence over that particularly area, and burn the tower to the ground. Doing so, shops will be open and can be renovated. Once done so, you can then shop (duh). Later on in the game, you can also recruit assassin apprentices. Sending them to various missions and even have them help with your own will level them up. A pretty fun and neat addition to the game, I might say, since ordering your lackeys to do your dirty work is never dull. The tombs in Assassin Creed II returned in Brotherhood in the form of lairs and once again, by completing all 6 of these puzzling mazes, you will be in for a treat. Although sad thing is, you don’t get to enjoy using it for a long time.
Leonardo da Vinci, your old friend and ally is back again. Other then providing weapons for Ezio, he once again, have one of the best missions in the game. Apparently, he’s been forced into creating war machines for Cesare, so it’s up to Ezio to help destroying some of the war machines prototypes like the warboat, tank and Leonardo’s upgraded flying machine. Having the chance to navigate through these vehicles give quite a lot of variety already to the gameplay.

There are once again, new weapons and equipments. There’s an introduction of the poison dart, where can now poison someone from afar, the crossbow which makes stealth assassination a cinch now and even a parachute which helps with bad falls. Another very fun part of Brotherhood is the improved combat. Yes, just when you think the improvements are already quite enough and satisfying during Assassin Creed II, Brotherhood’s is on a whole new level. During combat, you can now perform execution streaks. After killing an enemy, be it counter-kill or whatever, you can move forward to the next targets for consecutive kills. The most entertaining part is to keep the consecutive kills ongoing without being stopped by your enemy’s attacks. Watching Ezio executing all those consecutive kills via those beautiful acrobatic movements is a sight to see. I found myself trying out different weapons just to see the animation killing sequences during combat. There’s also the double execution where he can instantly killed both at once using a sword and a gun. A nice addition to the execution streaks concept.
Brotherhood also introduces an unusual multiplayer mode, which doesn’t quite deliver constant thrills, but is still satisfying to a certain degree. Some match types include the Assassinate and Escort mode. In most of them, you hunt an assigned target (alone, or in a team) while simultaneously trying to avoid the player assigned to assassinate you. To further complicate matters, you can level up and earn special powers, such as temporarily disguising yourself, or using eagle vision to spot your victim.

Most of the new fancy things in Brotherhood is another way of giving you something to do in a game already full of content, though some of these, actually made a less challenging game even more so ‘less challenging.’
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
At this point, I would love to have an Assassin’s Creed III more instead another sequel. Just look at Ezio, he’s practically a grandpa now! Leonardo should make him a wheelchair >_>
However, other then Ezio, Altair and Desmond will also have major roles in this game, which is a good thing in my books. Also, as you can see from the above, Ezio’s default costume will be in black color. I don’t know about this since white robes are a pretty symbolic costume in the Assassin Creed Universe (then again, I like my Armor of Altair more..) so we will have to see about that. The trailer, though didn’t show much at this point, looks amazing.
Multiplayer mode also marks a return in Revelations and had been improved dramatically. Players will be able to customize their character’s appearance and weapon and even create their own guilds. Multiplayer maps will take place around Constantinople, Abstergo. More modes are added as well and one such more involves working your way up the ranks as an assassin. Customization will also be a key addition to Revelations.

From ubisoft’s trailers, this will be the last game featuring Ezio and Altair. With that being said, I’m looking forward to see an epic closure on the Ezio trilogy^^
