Sony has been in the forefront of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates with its latest Sony Xperia arc S and neo V already bumped up to ICS in April, and now the original Sony (Ericsson) Xperia arc and neo are finally getting the Android 4.0 treatment as well.
The two handset will get Android version 4.0.4 with the kernel at 2.6.32, but these are the details for the geeky users. For the average person, the update should translate in a performance boost coming from the support for full hardware acceleration, and that’s already huge.
The Sony (Ericsson) Xperia arc was released in early 2011, and the Xperia neo later last year, and we’re glad to see that both finally get ICS. The one handset where Sony didn’t deliver with updates is the Xperia Play. The first PlayStation certified phone will NOT to get Ice Cream Sandwich, but Sony explains that it’s because there’s “a significant decline in user experience when running high performance games.”
